We Can “Catch” Thoughts

Last week my wife got a stomach virus. Yuck! I was very attentive to her but stayed clear. I thought I was in the clear when she started feeling better, but no such luck. Yuck! Sunday afternoon I got the same thing. I could have blamed her, but I didn’t. I saw it as a way to sympathize with her! I could have griped and complained, but I didn’t. Well, maybe a little. (She will read this so I have to be truthful!) I was amazed that a little germ could make you feel that bad. I was also amazed that God, in His wisdom, built into our system a whole army to take care of the evil intruder. I thought, “What a way to spend a day off, in bed!” But maybe God wanted me to get some rest. Time to pray, right?

Maybe God was using that germ to do a tremendous job of internal cleansing. I know, too graphic.

Later I mowed the yard and left the remaining contents from my stomach out there. Thankfully it was only a 24 hour deal.

Here is the point. Thoughts are a lot like that germ. We can “catch” thoughts that are negative and unhealthy. There are thoughts that can bring us down for the count. But God has given us something to overcome those thoughts, the Holy Spirit. When bad things happen to us we have a choice about how we will perceive them. Our thoughts can be positive or negative, full of faith or lack of faith. Which kind of thoughts do you think will get you through a touch time? GOD thoughts, for sure.

What area of your life do you need to change your thinking about?

Proverbs 23:7 “As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.”

2 Corinthians 10:5 “Bring into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.”
